Gangtok, 29 Aug:
Confirmed cases of COVID-19 crossed the 1,600 mark today with 26 fresh cases taking the cumulative number of cases detected in the State so far to 1,602.
There are currently 404 active cases on COVID-19 in Sikkim with 1,195 people having made full recoveries. In the 24 hours ending 8AM Saturday, 15 more patients - 12 from STNM Hospital and three from the isolation centre at SICB Jorethang – were discharged.
In the daily health bulletin on Saturday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia informed that four of the 18 samples tested by TrueNat on Friday returned positive, while 11 fresh cases were detected from 287 samples screened by RT-PCR at the VRD Lab in STNM Hospital.
He added that another 11 positive cases of COVID-19 were reported in the rapid antigen testing of 175 samples.
While giving details of new cases found in RT-PCR testing, he mentioned that one primary contact from 32 No., two primary contacts from the containment zone in Children’s Park and one person from Sichey area tested positive.
He added that one more case from below SNT colony in Daragaon, Tadong was found positive and added that the patient had gone to a doctor at a diagnostic centre and the contact tracing team was now calling the people from the list received from the centre and asking them to go for home quarantine for now.
Mr Bhutia mentioned that one person from Chandmari area, one from Pani House, one from Chota Singtam, one from Decheling and two staff members of the COVID Care Centre at Paljor Stadium [one from the catering team and another from the sanitization team] also reported positive for COVID-19.
He informed that a staff of NIC, Gangtok from Forest Colony road area, one from 32nd No and two from Setipool area tested positive in TrueNat.
On the 11 new cases found in RAT, State IEC Officer informed that seven were from Rangpo screening centre, of whom one is an employee of Teesta Urja Limited, Mangan, one employee of Pakyong Airport, four police personnel and a person in their custody.
He added that one person from Shreebadam, West Sikkim and another from Dodak West Sikkim were found positive in rapid antigen testing at Melli screening centre.
Further, one person from 32 No and one from Metro Point, Tadong were also reported positive in RAT at the Central Referral Hospital, Tadong.
