Body of one of three siblings swept away by Bakcha Chu recovered

Search teams today recovered the body of one of the three siblings washed away by Bakcha Chu on Friday.

A pall of gloom fell over Dikchu on Saturday after news arrived of three siblings; two sisters and their brother being washed away by Bakcha (Dikchu) river at Dikchu in East Sikkim.

The three are Purna Rai 29 years, Chandra Rai, 28 years and Erika Rai 22 years, all children of Rek Bdr Rai of Kazitar Dikchu.

The body of Erica Rai was recovered at around 5:20PM on Sunday during search operations led by NDRF (North), SDRF (Gangtok) in coordination with Tintek BDO Tshering Norgyal Theeng, Police personnel from Dikchu Police Out Post outpost, Panchayat and the local people.

It is suspected that the siblings drowned in a mishap while taking pictures.

A minor girl who had accompanied them cried for the help and informed the local people.

Search operations for the other two siblings continues, the BDO informs.
