Sharp rise of 105 takes Sikkim's COVID count past 1800
GANGTOK, 04 Sept: Sikkim has witnessed the sudden spike of novel coronavirus cases with the report of fresh 105 cases of COVID-19 positive in last 24 hours as on 8 AM Friday. The active cases of COVID-19 have now jumped to 509 with these 105 new cases and the State tally of confirmed cases reported so far has now crossed 1800 mark and standing on 1843. Out of these new cases in Sikkim, a total of 76 new cases have been reported in East District, 28 in West District and 01 in South District.
In the daily health bulletin on Friday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia mentioned that all 20 samples tested by TrueNat have reported negative for COVID-19. He added that 102 out of 399 samples were found positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing at VRD Lab in STNM hospital on Thursday, while three persons were tested positive in rapid antigen testing of 22 samples.
While giving break-up of new cases reported in RT-PCR testing, he mentioned that 16 persons from Lal Bazaar area and 28 SSB personnel from West Sikkim, who were already in a quarantine facility in at Kyongsa, Gyalshing, were tested positive for COVID-19. Likewise, he added that two from containment zone in Amdo Golai, one also from containment zone near a Petrol pump, nine from near Kajla Petrol Pump and eight from 7th Mile, 4th Mile and 3rd Mile on JN Road were also found positive for COVID-19.
Mr Bhutia mentioned that three staffs of Samman Bhawan were reported positive during the routine test before joining their duty. He added that two from containment zone near Coir Board office on Bye Pass road, one from below Arnold gym in Ambo Golai, two from Forest Colony, two primary contacts from containment zone in government quarter in Shyari, one from Aho, two from Saramsa and one from Nimtar were tested COVID-19.
Similarly, one person from near AIR quarter in Arithang, one from Tsomgo on JN Road, two from Namnang, one from DPH area, one fron near Thapa Goali in Sichey, one from Dhar Gaon on Lingmoo road in Makha, one from Development Area, two from Khamdong, one from Ranipool, two containment zone near ICFAI University, two from containment zone below GMC quarater in Arithang, seven primary contacts in Chota Singtam and one from Zydus were found positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing, he informed.
Mr Bhutia informed that one person from Majhigaon, Jorethang, one from Dhamala Colony in Singtam and one employee of CIPLA were tested positive in the rapid antigen testing.
In the meantime, 25 more patients of COVID-19 were discharged on Thursday from isolation facilities after full recovery taking the figure of cured & discharged patients to 1329. It has to be mentioned here that three from STNM hospital, eight from Paljor Stadium, eleven from Himalayan Pharmacy Institute and three from SICB, Jorethang were discharged from isolation facilities yesterday.
