47 Recipients of the National Award of Teachers, 2020 felicitated

A one-day program to felicitate all the 47 recipients of the National Award of Teachers, 2020 was held at their respective district NIC centres across India.

Every year National Awards to teachers are given on the 5th of September at New Delhi on the occasion of Teacher’s Day. However due to the ongoing corona pandemic the event for this year was conducted through Video conferencing.

The program started at 11.00am and was chaired by President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. The event was also graced by Union Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, and Union Minster of state for Education, Sanjay Dhotre along with various officials from Ministry of Education, Govt of India.

The state awardee, Archana Gurung attended the event from NIC centre Namchi while Lomas Dhungel attended from NIC Headquarters Gangtok. The event also saw the presence of Ragul K (DC South) and AD Chettri (Joint Director East) at their respective districts.

Archana Gurung, who started her career as PGT English in 1996 and presently serving as the Principal of Govt Sr Sec School Jorethang (South Sikkim), was awarded for her exemplary contributions to school management and other activities. Lomas Dhungel, who started his career as GT (Maths) in 2012 and presently posted at Govt Sr Sec Secondary Makha (East Sikkim) was awarded for his innovative ideas in teaching mathematics and his socio-environmental project Hariyo Makha - Sikkim Against Pollution.

The president acknowledged the contributions made by the awardees in their field of education and congratulated them on their achievements.
