COVID tally rises to 1989 with 31 fresh cases

GANGTOK, 09 Sept:

Sikkim’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 1989 with 31 new cases of novel coronavirus reported in the last 24 hours as of 8 AM Wednesday. In the meantime, 16 more patients have been discharged from isolation facilities after full recovery on Tuesday taking the figure of cured & discharged patients of COVID-19 to 1429. The number of active cases of COVID-19 in the State now stands at 553.

In his daily health bulletin on Wednesday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia mentioned that in the testing of 228 samples by RT-PCR at VRD Lab in STNM hospital on Tuesday, 27 returned positive for COVID-19. He further added that one of 38 samples tested by TrueNat returned positive, while three persons were also found positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing of 28 samples.

While giving the break-up of new cases found in RT-PCR, he mentioned that one from Lal Bazaar, one from Lower Okhrey, one from Ranka Road in Sichey, one from near Petrol Pump in 32nd No, one from near old Sadar Thana in Tibet Road and one from Manbir Colony were found positive for COVID-19. Likewise, he added that a person from the staff quarter of the High Court guest house in VIP colony and another person from the High Court premises itself were tested COVID-19 positive.

Mr Bhutia stated that one from near SaraswatiVidyaMandir in Daragaon, Tadong, one from near Assam Lingzey senior secondary school, one from Bhir Cutting area in Ranipool, one from Pacheykhani, one from Lumsey, one from Shanti complex in Ranipool, two from containment zone in Children Park and one from near Bhaichung Lodge in SisaGolai were tested positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing. Likewise, one from government quarter in Shyari, one from Nehu in Lower Changey, one from near Helipad, two from Chandmari, one from SIB Colony in Baluwakhani, one from 10th Mile Bhusuk, one LIC senior business associate from near Gajraj hotel in SisaGolai, one from Chisopani in Singtam and one from Sun Pharma area were also reported positive for COVID-19, he added.

Mr Bhutia mentioned that one patient admitted in the Emergency ward of STNM hospital was also tested positive in TrueNat. He added that one person from AdarshGaon, Singtam and another from BagheyKhola were tested positive in the rapid antigen testing at Singtam District hospital, while a person from Lumsey was also reported positive in the RAT at the Central Referral Hospital, Tadong.

It is informed that 14 patients from the isolation ward of STNM hospital and two patients from COVID Care Centre at Himalayan Pharmacy Institute were discharged yesterday.
