Sikkim records 33 new cases even as COVID death toll reaches 18

GANGTOK, 14 Sept: COVID-19 death toll in the State has reached 17 with one more novel coronavirus related death has been recorded in Sikkim on Monday. A 59-years-old man from Majhigaon, Jorethang in South Sikkim was passed away this morning at around 9 AM at STNM hospital.

In the daily health bulletin on Monday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia mentioned that he was referred and admitted in STNM hospital yesterday evening. He added that the patient was diagnosed as acute respiratory distress syndrome fluid in lungs and will be cremated with proper protocol on Tuesday morning.

Likewise, the State tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 2119 with the detection of 33 new cases in Sikkim in last 24 hours as on 8 AM Monday. In the meantime, 16 patients have won their fight against the novel coronavirus and discharged from isolation facilities on Sunday taking the figure of cured & discharged patients of COVId-19 to 1521 in Sikkim. There are now 582 actives cases of novel coronavirus in Sikkim.

In the health bulletin, Mr Bhutia mentioned that 32 of 112 samples were tested positive for COVID-19 in the RT-PCR testing at VRD Lab in STNM hospital on Sunday. Likewise, one more case of COVID-19 positive was found in TrueNat testing of 22 samples, while only one sample was tested in the rapid antigen testing which was returned negative, he added. Out of 33 new cases in Sikkim, 15 were reported in East District, 05 from West District and 13 from South District.

While giving details of new cases detected in RT-PCR, Mr Bhutia informed that mentioned that 13 samples sent by Namchi District Hospital were returned positive for COVId-19, in whom 10 are from Majhigaon Ward No 4, two from Majhigaon Ward No 3 and one from Chisopani Nandugaon. Likewise, he stated that two patients in ICU of the Central Referral Hospital, Tadong, two from below CS Rai secondary school, Arithang, two from AIR quarters, Arithang and two from the containment zone in Namnang were also tested COVID-19 positive. He added that one primary contact from the containment zone in Samdur, one from Daragaon, Tadong, one from Jorethang, who passed away this morning, one from Mukhia Gaon in 6th Mile Tadong and one from Pani House were reported positive in RT-PCR testing. He informed that samples of five SSB personnel, who were in OBC hostel in Dentam, sent by Gyalshing district hospital were also tested positive for COVID-19.

State IEC Officer informed that one person from Rangpo was reported COVID-19 positive in TrueNat.
