GANGTOK, 16 Sept: Forty-nine fresh cases of novel coronavirus have been reported in Sikkim in last 24 hours as on 8 AM Wednesday taking the State tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported so far to 2221. Out of these 49 new cases in the State, 38 cases are reported in East District, 01 in West District, 05 in South District and 05 in North District. The active cases of COVID-19 have now increased to 480 in the State. In the meantime, 32 more patients of COVID-19 have recovered fully and were discharged from isolation facilities on Tuesday, which further improves the figure of cured & discharged patients so far in the State to 1722.
In the daily health bulletin on Wednesday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia mentioned that 41 new cases of COVID-19 positive have been reported from the RT-PCR testing of 222 samples on Tuesday here at VRD Lab in STNM hospital, while 08 new positive cases were detected in the rapid antigen testing of 22 samples. He added that all 16 samples tested by TrueNat were returned negative for COVID-19.
While giving the details of new cases detected in RT-PCR, State IEC Officer informed that six samples sent by Singtam District Hospital were tested positive, which includes one person from Sangkhola, two from Tinek-Chiospani, one from Sawney Chuwatar, one from Majhitar and one from Bardang. Likewise, five samples sent by Mangan District Hospital were also found positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR, in whom one person from Hospital Dara Pentok, one from Pakshek and two are presently in Gangtok [one in Chandmari and one in Deorali]. He added that one 31-years-old man from below DGP bunglow in Tathangchen, who has been tested positive, cannot be contacted over the phone and he further requested to immediately contact the authority on getting the message.
Likewise, one from the containment one in Arithang, one from PNG School Road, one from the containment zone near Bakthang petrol pump, three primary contacts from the containment zone near Lingding School Golai, six persons from the containment zone in Pani House, one from Development Area and one from Decheling were also reported positive in RT-PCR testing, he added.
Mr Bhutia mentioned that one primary contact from the containment zone above Bike Garage in Bye Pass area, one from Ranipool, one from the fourth grade quarters in Shyari, one from near Smile Land, one person from Soreng Daragaon but presently residing in Phewa Busty, one from opposite Manipal gate, one from Upper Yangyang, one from the containment zone below Arithang School and one from near Gas Godown in DPH area were also found positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing. He added that samples of a person from below Taxi Stand in Lingding, one from Upper Yangyang but presently residing at Metro Point, Gangtok, one from Gairi Gaon Tadong and one patient from the Central Referral Hospital were also reported COVID-19 positive.
Similarly, samples of a person from Bardang and one from near SBS in Singtam sent by Singtam District Hospital were tested positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing, while one four months old child from Tikjuk in West Sikkim was also reported positive in RAT, Mr Bhutia informed. He added that a person from Chisopani, two from Melli Bazaar and one person from Majhigaon and one from Daragaon in Jorethang were also tested positive for COVID-19 in RAT.
