Sikkim records 39 new COVID cases and two more deaths
Gangtok, 19 Sept:
Thirty-nine fresh cases of novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours took Sikkim’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 2,342. Sikkim also recorded two more COVID-related deaths on Saturday taking the total number of such fatalities to 28.
A 70-year-old male from Shyari, who was admitted in STNM hospital on 11 September and was in the ICU, passed away yesterday. The patient also had the co-morbidity of hypertension.
Another 68-year-old male from Arithang, who was admitted in STNM hospital on 14 September and was in the ICU, passed away at around 11 AM this morning. He had co-morbidities of hypertension and asthma.
Meanwhile, out of the 39 new cases, 22 were detected in East District and 17 in West Sikkim.
In the meantime, 34 more patients were discharged from isolation facilities on Friday taking the total number of discharged COVID-19 patients in Sikkim to 1,891. With these, there are now 426 active cases lodged at isolation facilities in the State.
In the daily health bulletin on Saturday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia informed that in RT-PCR screening of 334 samples at the VRD Lab on Friday, 34 returned positive for COVID-19.
He added that one of 38 samples tested by TrueNat also returned positive for COVID-19, while four more new cases of COVID-19 positive were detected in the rapid antigen testing of 26 samples.
While giving the break-up of new cases found in RT-PCR testing, he informed that one person from power quarters in DPH colony in Jalipool, one from the containment zone on Deorali Girls SSS road, one from below Forest Secretariat in Deorali and one from near SBI Bank in Majhitar were found positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, five legislators of Sikkim along with three others from VIP colony also tested positive in RT-PCR testing. Likewise, one from below Hospital Dara, one from Namchi, one person from below Thapa Golai Sichey but presently residing at Bhanjyang Road in Namchi, one from below West Point SSS in Tathangchen, three staff of the Central Referral Hospital, Tadong from the CRH hostel, one from Jubilee Line, Singtam, one from Baghay Khola and one from Majhitar were found positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing, he said.
Mr Bhutia mentioned that samples of 17 persons from West Sikkim also returned positive for COVID-19, of whom 14 are SSB personnel based at Melli-Aching in Yuksom and three workers of a construction company, who are presently at Yaktey in Gyalshing in West Sikkim.
Likewise, he added that a resident of Jorethang tested positive for COVID-19 in TrueNat testing, while a person from near CIPLA in Kumrek, Rangpo, one person from Rongli, one from Chanatar Rangpo and one from Sangkhola were found COVID-19 positive in the rapid antigen testing.
