COVID spread continues with 56 new cases
GANGTOK, 21 Sept: The active cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim have increased to 513 with reports of 56 fresh cases of novel coronavirus in the State in last 24 hours as on Monday 8 AM. Out of 56 new cases, 36 are reported in East District, 02 in West District and 18 in South District. In the meantime, eleven more patients were discharged from isolation facilities on Sunday after their full recovery. The tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim is now 2447, in which 1905 persons have already won their battle against the novel coronavirus and returned home after being discharged from isolation facilities.
In the daily health bulletin on Monday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia mentioned that 50 of 179 samples were reported positive for COVID-19 in the RT-PCR testing on Sunday here at VRD Lab in STNM hospital. He added that one new case of COVID-19 positive was detected in the TrueNat testing of 27 samples, while five more fresh cases were reported in the rapid antigen testing of 19 samples. He mentioned that another 2 days old child, who had tested COVID-19 positive, has also returned home after the complete recovery.
In the break-up of new cases detected in RT-PCR testing, Mr Bhutia informed that one person from below old STNM hospital, three from Ranipool, three from Shyari, one from behind housing colony in Development Area, two from near Manjushree School on Ranka Road, one CIPLA employee, one patient admitted in STNM hospital, one from Setipool and one from below Primary School in Middle Shyari were reported positive for COVID-19. Likewise, one from VIP colony, one from near Model Private School in Upper Shyari, one from near West Point SSS in Tathangchen, one from near ZIlla Panchayat office in Lower Shyari, one from near Co-operative in Mehrung, Bhusuk, one from Pakyong, one from Rumtek, one from Lingey, one from near Forest Check Post Fatak in Sichey, one from the government quarter block C above Women’s Hostel in Deorali and one from near Power Department in Kazi Road were also tested COVID-19 positive in RT-PCR testing. He added that an employee of Axis Bank, Ranipool branch from Greendale School road, one person from near Canara bank in Arithang and one from the containment zone in Deorali were also tested positive for COVID-19.
Mr Bhutia informed that one 20-years-old woman from Namphing, who gave sample in the flu clinic of STNM hospital and reported COVID-19 positive, cannot be contacted over the phone and further urged her to contact the concerned authority immediately. He mentioned that one person from Rangpo, one from Central Pendam and one from near Smile Land and 15 persons from Namchi and two from Upper Lingchum in West Sikkim tested positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing.
He stated that one person from Ranka was found COVID-19 positive in TrueNat testing, while a person from Ranipool, one from Sangkhola and three from Sumbuk, near Singhithang ground and Dambu Dara in South Sikkim were reported positive in the rapid antigen testing.
