Sikkim’s caseload crosses 2500 mark with 66 new cases
GANGTOK, 22 Sept:
The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported so far in Sikkim has crossed the 2500-mark and stands at 2513 with the detection of 66 fresh cases in the State in the last 24 hours ending 8 AM Tuesday. The number of active cases of novel coronavirus has now increased to 556 in the State.
Out of 66 new cases in the State, 54 have been reported in East District, 06 in West District and 06 in South District.
In the meantime, 23 more patients were discharged on Monday from isolation facilities in the State to further improve the figure of discharged patients of COVID-19 in Sikkim to 1928.
In the daily health bulletin on Tuesday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia informed that 45 new cases of COVID-19 positive were reported in RT-PCR testing of 175 samples here at VRD Lab in STNM hospital on Monday. Likewise, five more cases were detected in the TrueNat testing of 27 samples, while 16 of 59 samples were found positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing. He mentioned that three patients were in the ICU facility.
In the break-up of new cases reported in RT-PCR, Mr Bhutia informed that one person from Church Road area, four patients admitted in STNM hospital, one from Kazi Road area, one from below psychiatric ward of old STNM hospital, one from near Cooperative Shop in Navey, one from below Manjushree School in Lower Sichey, one from end of the road at Lumsey, one from Upper Rey in Rey-Mindu and one from near Manjushree School in Ranka Road were tested positive for COVID-19. He added that a person from Mam Gaon in Middle Shyari, two from near Brahma Kumaricentre in Development Area, one from near Housing quarter below Taxi Stand, one from near Cooperative Dara in Sichey, one from opposite Sera Gumpa in Chandmari, one from below Police Reserve Line near Paljor Stadium and one from near Marigold School in Upper Sichey were also found COVID-19 positive in RT-PCR testing.
Likewise, one from Kerabari in Sangkhola, three from near Police outpost in Arithang, one from BarpipalDara in Sichey, two from College Valley in Tadong, one from Pani House area, one from near Marigold School in Sichey, one from above Bike Garage in Bye pass area, two from near Forest check-post on Adampool Road, three from the containment zone in Arithang, one from near Beracah House of Worship in Tadong, one from below Gas Distribution Centre on Bye pass road in Lingding, three primary contacts from VIP colony and five health staff posted at Rangpo Screening Centre also tested positive for COVID-19, he added.
Mr Bhutia mentioned that Member Secretary in-charge of Sikkim Women’s Commission from Sichey area has also tested positive for COVID-19. On the same, he urged those who may have visited the commission’s office or come in direct contact of the Member Secretary in the last seven days, to monitor their health. If theyget symptoms they should to go for testing at Flu Clinic at STNM hospital or call the toll free number of the Health department for any enquiry.
Similarly, one staff of STNM hospital, one from near police outpost in GairiGaon, Tadong, one from behind Kanchenjunga Shopping complex in Lal Bazaar area, one from opposite BSNL telephone exchange near Forest check-post reported COVID-19 positive, and one person from North Regu, tested positive he said.
Mr Bhutia informed that a person from Army quarter in Samdur, one from the containment zone in ITBP Metro Point, Tadong and one from near Mayfair resort in Ranipool were found COVID-19 positive in rapid antigen testing at CRH, Tadong.
Six cases were detected in South Sikkim; two from near petrol pump on Jorethang road, one from near Boomtar Primary School and one from near Kopchey school and one from Jorethang bazaar and one from Lower Boomtar area in South District also tested positive in RAT.
Similarly, six cases were also detected in West Sikkim; three persons from Gyalshing, one from Budang in Soreng, one from Malbasey, Soreng and one from KharkaBazaaar in Soreng.
