35 new cases take Sikkim’s COVID tally to 2547

GANGTOK, 23 Sept:

Sikkim recorded the 30th COVID-19 related death after a 50-year-old man from Rumtek in East Sikkim died on Tuesday evening.

The patient had returned to Sikkim on 19 September and was in home quarantine at Rumtek. On developing some symptoms, the patient was rushed to STNM hospital on Tuesday evening where he was declared brought dead at around 6:30 PM, informed Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia in the daily health bulletin on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 35 fresh cases of novel coronavirus were reported in East District in the last 24 hours ending 8 AM Wednesday taking the State’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 2547. There are now 575 actives cases of novel coronavirus in the State.

The figure of the cured & discharged patients of COVID-19 has further improved to 1942 with the discharge of 14 more patients on Tuesday from isolation facilities.

In the health bulletin, Mr Bhutia further informed that 27 of 295 samples returned positive for COVID-19 in the RT-PCR testing at VRD Lab in STNM hospital on Tuesday. Likewise, four samples were also found COVID-19 positive in TrueNat testing, while four more persons were found positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing of 46 samples, he said. He mentioned that four patients were in ICU facility of STNM hospital.

While giving break-up of new cases, Mr Bhutia informed that two from the containment zone near Manjushree School in Lower Sichey, seven patients admitted in STNM hospital, one from Dichiling area, one from Ninety Bazaar in Sichey, one from the containment zone in Upper Sichey, one from Daragaon, Tadong, three primary contacts from the containment zone in Church Road, one from the containment zone in Metro Point Tadong and another from the containment zone near JoredharaTadongtested positive for COVID-19.

Likewise, samples of a person from Barpipal on Bye-Pass Road, one from near Eagle Dwar in Swastik, one from Singtam, one from Rinchenpong but presently admitted in STNM hospital, one from Seti Bazaar near DAC [East], Sichey, one from the containment zone near Cooperative in Sichey and one person from the containment zone near West Point SSS in Tathangchenreturned positive for COVID-19.

He added that one person from Rhenock, one from Rangpo, three from COVID Care Centre at Mintokgang and one person from Rumtek, who passed away on Tuesday, tested COVID-19 positive.

Mr Bhutia mentioned that one person from Greendale School Road above CRH, Tadong, one from Rumtek, one from Police quarter in Gangtok and one from Samdong reported positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing at the Central Referral Hospital, Tadong.
