Poshan Abhiyaan has special focus on reducing under-nutrition and low birth weight in children, and anaemia in adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers as well as children. The 3rd Rashtriya Poshan Maah is being celebrated this month across the country. During this pandemic situation to create awareness about health and nutrition PIB Guwahati organised a webinar on Poshan Abhiyaan today.
Taking part as a speaker in the webinar today, Prof & HoD of Food Science & Nutritions, Dr Pranati Das, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat said that strong Immune System is the best defence against COVID-19, as long as the immune system is functioning normally, infection such as COVID-19 go unnoticed. While deliberating on Immunity & Nutrition, she said that nutrition is essential for health and well-being at every stage of life. For holistic health benefits there is a need to have balanced meals which includes fresh fruits and vegetables she added. In her address she said that during this COVID situation people are more concerned about their health and for good health they are taking vitamins tablets, but supplement should not be considered as a substitute of good diet.
SPMU-Poshan Abhiyaan, Har Gobinda Boro, Assam gave a detailed briefing on the on-going campaign of the Poshan Abhiyan in Assam. He discussed about the Poshan Abhiyaan as a programmatic approach in addressing the life cycle issues of malnutrition. He said that malnutrition is a major challenge which hampers the growth of our country and Government is implementing Poshan Abhiyaan to address the problem of malnutrition.
Joint Director, Samrat Bandopadhyay, PIB Guwahati in his welcome address said that Poshan Abhiyaan is an initiative by Government of India to improve nutritional status of children up to 6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. Deputy Director, Pallab Chakraborty, PIB Guwahati delivered the closing address in the webinar. Field Exhibition Officer, Hiramani Das moderated the webinar.
The webinar was attendant by around 60 participants including the officials of PIB and FOB, North East Zone, Students of AAU and journalists across NE zone.
