With two more fatalities, Sikkim’s COVID death toll climbs to 35

Gangtok, 28 Sept:

The COVID-related death toll in Sikkim reached 35 today with reports of two more COVID-19 positive patients passing away on Monday. A 73-year-old female from Mamring, South District, passed away late last night and a 47-year-old male from Namchi-Singhithang, South District, this afternoon.

In the daily health bulletin on Monday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia, informed that the 73-year-old, who had tested positive on rapid antigen testing at Namchi was admitted to STNM Hospital on the morning of 27 September.

He added she was admitted in the ICU and passed away due to cardiac failure at 9:41 PM the same night. He informed that the patient had the co-morbid ailment of asthma.

The 47-year-old man from Namchi-Singhithang passed away around 2:30 PM Monday afternoon due to cardio-respiratory arrest. He informed that the patient had the co-morbid condition of the acute respiratory infection.

In the meantime, the State’s tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 2,815 on Monday with the detection of 25 fresh cases.

There are now 698 actives cases of novel coronavirus in the State.

Of the new cases, 20 have been reported from East District and five from South Sikkim.

On the other hand, 18 more patients were discharged from isolation facilities on Sunday, taking the total number of people discharged to 2,083.

There are also eight COVID patients currently admitted in the ICU ward at STNM Hospital.

On Sunday, a total of 17 cases were detected in RT-PCR testing of 111 samples at the VRD Lab in STNM hospital, while three cases were found in TrueNat testing of 15 samples. Similarly, five more patients were reported positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing of 31 samples.

While giving the break-up of new cases found in RT-PCR testing, Mr Bhutia informed one person from near STNM hospital on Ranka Road in Sichey, one from Sisa Golai, two from the containment zone in Daragaon Tadong, one from the containment zone in Sichey, one health worker from quarantine centre of health workers at Yatri Niwas, one from near the Parking area in Arithang, one from near Police Headquarters in Church Road area, one from above the driving institute in Upper Sichey and three from Barpipal in Sichey tested positive.

He added that four persons from Namchi in South District and one from Duga in East District were found COVID positive in RT-PCR testing as well.

One person from the containment zone in Shyari, one from 6th Mile Tadong and one from the containment zone at Pani House area were found positive in TrueNat testing.

Likewise, a person from Sombaria Bazaar and one from Upper Majhigaon in Jorethang, one from near ICDS Centre at Sumin Mangthang and two from Rhenock Bazaar tested positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing.
