Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan, 2020 for North Sikkim concludes

Mangan, 30 Sept (IPR):

The closing ceremony of Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan, 2020 for North Sikkim was held at Election Conference Hall, Mangan today. The said programme was organised by the Social Justice and Welfare Department and District Administration.

It is to be mentioned the entire month of September is celebrated as the Rashtriya Poshan Maah. This year’s theme was “Together towards Kuposhan Mukth Bharat” (sahi poshan desh roshan).

The programme was graced by the Zilla Adhakshya/North, Namday Lepcha, also as the chief guest for the programme and was accompanied by ADC North, Sonam Lepcha, ADC Development, RB Bhandari, CMO North, Dr PK Basnett, BDO Passindang, TR Bhutia, Deputy Director HRDD, Sajan V Sebastian and Deputy Director HRDD, Narendra Kumar. The programme was started by the opening speech by CDPO Dzongu followed by the DPO (Poshan Abhiyaan), LD Denjongpa. Mr Denjongpa addresses saying that why Rashtriya Poshan Maah is celebrated around the nation is to reduced the ratio of stunting children around the nation.

An initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development has a target to bring down stunting children age 0 to 6 years from 38.4% to 25% by 2022. As per the research done by the Poshan Abhiyaan team, North Sikkim have found that the total no of 6 children lies under SAM (Service Acute Malnutrition) and 26 children lies under MAM (Moderate Acute Malnutrition). The main objective of Poshan Abhiyaan is to create awareness among the people reaching every corner of the state.

Later, the book name “Nutritionally Yours from the Highlands of Sikkim” was launched by the chief guest. This book contains the recipe of traditional foods found in entire North Sikkim zone. The book also contains recipes, ingredients, methods for preparation and benefits.

To encourage the general public the Poshan Abhiyaan team also had organized the online recipe contest in Facebook. The contest was organized in three different areas namely Mangan, Chunthang and Dzongu. The winners were adjudged by the most numbers of likes and share. Winners are as follows:


Kincho Bhutia - 1st, Tara Gurung - 2nd, and Phulum Dukzong - 3rd.


Teylam Lachungpa - 1st, Chewang Lhaden - 2nd and Nari Lepcha - 3rd.


Christina Lepcha – 1st, Mayalmit Lepcha 2nd and Pempa tsh Lepcha 3rd.

Best performing sector under Mangan Tribal Project was given to Phensang for their commendable efforts. They were awarded with cheque and khadas.

Lastly, the honorable chief guest addresses public to have a healthy life, to have proper balance diet and also said to get indulge in agriculture sector to produce organic products. She also congratulate to whole team for their tireless work done during this entire month.
