Krishi Mela cum Technology Week celebration at South Sikkim

The second day of the ongoing Krishi Mela-cum-Technology week conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra jointly organized by Agriculture/Horticulture departments, Namchi South Sikkim along with KVK South Sikkim. Chairman, Sikkim Poultry Development Board, Government of Sikkim graced the event as the Chief Guest of the day.

The programme was also honoured by the presence of Bikash Tamang, NOFPOCS(Namthang Organic Farmers Producer Cooperative Society) FPO; Dr Pratap Subba, Joint Director (South), Agriculture; Dikendra Bhujel, Joint Director(South), Horticulture; Indra Prasad Shivakoti, Sr Scientist and Head, KVK South Sikkim along with the other officials and staff of Horticulture/Agriculture Departments and KVK South Sikkim as well as the farmers and farm women from Namthang and surrounding villages of South District.

The programme started with a visit of various stalls of vegetables, fruits, flowers, bamboo and other agro-based handicrafts displayed by farmers/SHGs/FPOs etc. The Chief Guest also visited the different demonstration units like mushroom unit, hatchery unit, Goatery Unit, Poultry Unit of KVK South Sikkim. ADO, Yograj Pradhan, STL Namthang, Yangchenla Bhutia, SMS (Horticulture) and Dr Chewang Norbu Bhutia, SMS (Animal Science) from KVK South Sikkim were the resource person during the technical session.

President, Bikash Tamang, NOFPOCS FPO suggested the farmers to take maximum advantage of the KVK located at Namthang where different subject specialists related to Agriculture/Horticulture/Soil Science/Animal Science are presents for dissemination of new agricultural technologies.

Chief Guest of the day Chairman, Krishna Gurung spoke on benefits of poultry farming and its marketing, value addition on agriculture and horticulture products and also requested all the farming community to take maximum advantage of KVK.

The programme was concluded with distribution of tokens and certificate to the participating farmers and SHGs with financial support from ATMA (South) under Agriculture Department.
