With 42 new COVID infections, Sikkim’s tally breaches 3K

Sikkim’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 crossed the 3000-mark on Friday and now stands at 3,011 with the 42 new cases being reported in the last 24 hours. Nine COVID-19 patients are currently admitted in the ICU facility of STNM Hospital.
Out of the 42 cases, 39 have been reported from East District, two from West District and one from South District.
In the meantime, the number of COVID-19 patients discharged from Covid Care Centres and isolation wards further improved to 2,328 with the discharge of 34 more patients on Thursday.
There are now 642 active COVID-19 cases in the State.
21 new cases were reported in RT-PCR testing of 235 samples at the VRD Lab on Thursday, while nine cases were detected in TrueNat testing of 28 samples and 12 persons were found positive through rapid antigen testing of 70 samples.
While giving details of the new cases found via RT-PCR, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia mentioned that one person from Sichey, one from above Entel Motors in Tadong, one from near Little Pixies School in Development Area, one from Upper Sichey Road, one from below Lingding Taxi Stand and one from below Police Barracks in Upper Sichey tested positive for COVID-19.
He added that two persons from Sichey, four from below Paljor Stadium, one from near Greendale School in Tadong, one from Lingding, one from Namnang and one from Bahai School Road [Tadong] were also found COVID-19 positive.
He informed that one person from Golitar in Singtam, one from Central Pendam and one from Rangpo also tested positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing.
Mr Bhutia mentioned that samples of a person from Singtam, one from Changay Senti, one from near Goskhan in Arithang, one from below Shere Punjab Hotel in Arithang, one from Ranipool, one from Sadam and three from a paid quarantine facility also returned positive in TrueNat testing.
Likewise, a person from IBM Colony in Rangpo, one from MG Marg, one from Bhusuk, one from 6th Mile Tadong, one from Metro Point Tadong, one from Thami Dara [Luing] and one from near the Gas Godown in Lumsey were found positive in RAT.
He added that a person from Daragaon, Singtam and one from Rhenock in East District, one each from Tikjuk and one from Lower Bhaluthang in West District and one from Rabongla Bazaar in South District were also found COVID-19 positive in RAT.
