Fit India Freedom Run concludes

The Fit India Freedom Run, a part of Fit India Movement was launched on 15 Aug to 02 Oct, 2020. The run was to encourage fitness and help all to get freedom from obesity, laziness, stress, anxiety, diseases, etc. The concept was to run at least 2km anywhere and anytime. The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs with the involvement of all the officials and coaches from all districts, NSS Cell, Programme Coordinators, Programme Officers and volunteers make this campaign a mass movement from 15 August onwards by organising various physical activities such as running, jogging, skipping, cycling, zumba and yoga.
Under Fit India Movement, NSS unit of different institutions also under took activities like Clean Sikkim Green Sikkim campaign, Organic Sikkim, and plantation drive. They also played a vital role in spit free campaign wherein the volunteers generated awareness about the harmful effects of spitting on this COVID-19 pandemic.
The Fit India Freedom Run concluded on 02 October with the mass participation throughout the State. The Sports and Youth Affairs Department organised half an hour zumba session at White Hall complex in the morning, which was participated by the Officers and Staff of the Department and virtually joined by NSS volunteers of the State.
The NSS cell also awarded certificates of appreciation to the outstanding Programme Coordinators and Programme Officers from all four districts who gave excellent performance during the Fit India Freedom Run. The certificates and cash awards were also given to winners of online singing competition held for volunteers.
The Secretary encouraged volunteers to embrace Gandhian philosophy. He appealed for the continued efforts for Fit India Movement and urged all citizens to come forward for fitness with the spirit “fitness ki dose aadha ghanta roz” as given by Prime Minister.
Later, the Secretary accompanied by Chief Engineer and officials of the Department also attended foundation stone laying ceremony of Public Ground at Rhenock by MLA, Bishnu Kumar Sharma. Thereafter, they also visited Amba GPU and inspected the area along with Panchayat member and public for the development of sports infrastructures. It may be mentioned here that the GPU is adopted by Chief Minister for making it a model GPU in the State.
