Landslide claims 2 lives in Rinchenpong

GANGTOK, 03 Oct:

A massive landslide at Taphil under Samdung-Shreebadam block in Rinchenpong constituency, West Sikkim on Friday night has claimed two lives and injured three.

In the landslide, 61-year-old Nirmit Lepcha and 64-year-old Pamkit Lepcha, wives of late Sancho Lepcha, have lost their life, while 31-year-old Duknam Lepcha and his wife 28-year-old Lakhit Lepcha and daughter 10-year-old Somden Lepcha are undergoing treatment at Namchi District Hospital, informs an SKM press release issued by its secretary [press & publicity], RanjanaPradhan.

The release informs that soon after getting information about the incident, SKM leader, MahendraGurung, who is also the Chairman of State Medicinal Plants Board, rushed to the spot. He was also accompanied by West District Additional SP, NakulPradhan along with Rinchenpong constituency incharge, PhurbaTshering Bhutia and CLC president, SukhangSubba of SKM party, Kaluk BDO Bijay Prasad Subba and other officials.

It is informed that Disaster Management team, local administration, police, panchayats and local villagers were busy in the rescue operation till the writing of this press release.

The release adds that two houses of Sancho Lepcha and his son, Duknam Lepcha have sustained huge damages in the landslide. It is informed that bodies of the two deceased have also been recovered.
