Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad in the gracious presence of Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated the Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Hospital at the STNM Hospital premises, Sochakgang today.
Also present during the inaugural function were Minister for Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr MK Sharma, Minister for Building and Housing Department, Sanjeet Kharel, along with Principal Secretary Health, K Shrinivasulu, DG cum Secretary Health, Dr Pempa T Bhutia, senior officials of Health and line departments, doctors and staff from STNM hospital.
The construction of the building was executed by the Building and Housing Department, Government of Sikkim along with Civil Engineers Enterprises Pvt Ltd, Kolkata as the turnkey executor.
After the inauguration, Governor and Chief Minister along with other dignitaries inspected the facilities at the hospital in detail.
In his brief interaction with the media, the Hon'ble Chief Minister urged the people to abide the government guidelines for COVID-19 and also called for strict adherence of the standard operating procedures.
DG cum Secretary Health Dr Pempa T Bhutia informed that the building will cater to COVID-19 patients to counter the challenges posed by the corona virus pandemic once it would start its formal operation.
It was informed that the building has a total of 77 beds which are fully equipped, with a capacity to accommodate 150 beds to tackle any emergency, if arises.
