GANGTOK, 07 Oct: The COVID-19 related death toll has crossed 50-mark in the State and stands on 51 with two more deaths reported in Sikkim on Wednesday. A 32-years-old female from Lower Rongong in North Sikkim and 34-years-old ITBP personnel from North Sikkim were lost their life to novel coronavirus today.
In the daily health bulletin on Wednesday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia mentioned that a 32-years-old female from Lower Rongong in North Sikkim, who was tested positive in RT-PCR on 03 October and admitted in the ICU of STNM hospital, was passed away at around 2 PM this afternoon. He informed that the treatment of the patient was going in a nursing home at Siliguri and was also in ventilator and the family had brought back to Sikkim and found positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing. He added that she had the comorbid conditions of sepsis, pneumonia with respiratory distress and TB meningitis.
Likewise, Mr Bhutia informed that 34-years-old personnel of ITBP from Maharashtra and was posted in North Sikkim was brought to STNM hospital this morning and admitted in the ICU facility but he passed away at around 3:45 PM this afternoon. He mentioned that the patient had COVID induced pneumonia and respiratory distress.
In the meantime, 18 fresh cases of novel coronavirus have been reported in the State in last 24 hours taking the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported so far to 3234 in Sikkim. Likewise, the figure of discharged patients of COVID-19 in the State has improved to 2534 with the discharged of 14 more patients from isolation facilities. At present, there are 570 active cases of novel coronavirus in the State, in which eight are currently admitted in the ICU facility of STNM hospital.
All 18 new cases of novel coronavirus in the State were found in the rapid antigen testing of 48 samples on Tuesday. There were no RT-PCR testing yesterday as VRD Lab has been contained, while all eight samples tested by TrueNat were reported negative for COVID-19. Out of 18 new cases, 17 have been reported in East District and 01 in South District.
While giving details of new cases, Mr Bhutia mentioned that one person from Boomtar Namchi in South District was tested positive for COVID-19. He informed that two staffs of Singtam District Hospital were also found COVID-19 positive. He added that samples of a person from above Tamang Gumpa in Development Area, one from near Enchey Monastery in Chandmari, one from opposite SBC on Tadong School road, two from near Puspha Garage in Development Area, two from Daragaon, one from Deorali, one from DPH Area, one from Joredhara and two from Ranipool were also found COVID-19 positive.
Mr Bhutia informed that one person from Rhenock and one from Chujachen in Rongli were also tested positive for COVID-19 in RAT.
