Sikkim loses 52nd life to COVID-19
GANGTOK, 08 Oct: Sikkim has witnessed the 52nd COVID-19 related death on Thursday. An 82-years-old lady from Bermiok from South District, who was found positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing, was passed away this evening.
In the daily health bulletin on Thursday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia mentioned that the patient was brought at Singtam District Hospital where she was tested COVID-19 positive in RAT and referred to STNM hospital. However, he added that she was declared brought death at around 4:15 PM this evening on the arrival at STNM Hospital. He stated that the patient had the comorbid condition of asthma.
In the meantime, twelve new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in last 24 hours in Sikkim taking the State tally of the confirmed cases of novel coronavirus reported so far to 3246. Out of 12 new cases in the State, 10 have been reported in East District and 02 in South District. In other hand, 32 more COVID-19 patients were discharged from isolation facilities in the State on Wednesday to improve the figure of discharged patients in the State to 2569. There are now 545 active cases of novel coronavirus in the State. Eight COVID-19 patients are currently admitted in ICU facility of STNM hospital.
There was no RT-PCR testing on Wednesday as well as it was contained, while no new case was found in the TrueNat testing of 14 samples. Twelve new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in the rapid antigen testing of 38 samples.
While giving details of new cases found in RAT, Mr Bhutia mentioned that one person from below Paljor Stadium in Sichey, one from Dhakal Gaon in Lower Sichey, three from Development Area, one from near junior high school in Lingding and one from 6th Mile Tadong were found positive for COVID-19. He added that one from Yangyang and two from Namthang Bazaar in South District and one staff of Health Department from Adarsh Gaon in Singtam and one from Mamring were also tested positive for COVID-19 in RAT.
