With two more deaths, Sikkim's COVID toll reaches 54.
GANGTOK, 09 Oct: Sikkim has witnessed that COVID-19 related death of hardly two months old child here on Friday. A one month and 29 days old girl child from Makha in East District, who was admitted on 03 October at STNM Hospital, was passed away at around 10:55 AM this morning. She was reported positive for COVID-19 in TrueNat testing.
In the daily health bulletin on Friday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia mentioned that the septicemia, severe pneumonia and cardio respiratory failure was the cause of the death of the child.
He further informed that a 24-years-old man from Hee Gaon in West Sikkim, who was admitted on 29 September at STNM Hospital, was passed away around 6 AM this morning. He mentioned that the patient has the comorbid condition of chronic kidney disease. He mentioned that with these two more deaths, the COVID-19 related death toll has reached 54 in Sikkim.
In the meantime, active cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim is stands on 504 with 32 fresh cases of novel coronavirus reported in last 24 hours in the State. Out of 32 new cases, 26 cases have been reported in East District, 01 in West District and 05 South District, which takes the State tally of the confirmed cases in Sikkim to 3278. In other hand, the number of discharged patients of COVID-19 in the State has reached 2640 with the discharged of 17 more patients from isolation facilities on Thursday. Nine patients are currently admitted in the ICU facility of STNM hospital.
In the RT-PCR testing of 273 samples at VRD Lab in STNM hospital on Thursday, 14 were returned positive for COVID-19, while 18 more new cases of COVID-19 positive were found in the rapid antigen testing of 60 samples. All seven samples tested by TrueNat were reported negative for COVID-19.
While giving details of new cases found in the State, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia one SSB personnel from Melli-Aching, Yuksom in West Sikkim was found COVID-19 positive in RT-PCR testing. He added that one person from Daragaon, Tadong, one from Chandmari, one from near Khelgaon, Reshithang, one from Greendale School road, one from Namli, Ranipool, one from Munsi Colony in Development Area, one from Rai Gaon in Lower Burtuk, two from Tharo Line in Lal Market, one from Tadong, one from near Tadong police outpost, one from Vajra and one from Development Area were also tested positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing.
Mr Bhutia informed that one from Chisopani, one from Bermiok, two from near Tadong flyover, one from near Rongneck School in Decheling, one from Central Pendam, one from 6th Mile Tadong, one from near ICDS centre in Rhenock, one from below Spastic Society in Shyari, one from below Swastik gate in Upper Burtuk, one from Maneydara in Lingding, one from Middle Shyari and one from near helipad in Upper Burtuk found RAT positive for COVID-19. He added that one from 4th Mile Rangpo, one from Majhigaon, one from Tingrithang and two from Melli Bazaar were also reported COVID-19 positive in RAT.
