SNPP celebrates 12th foundation day, wants LT seats from 17 general seats.

GANGTOK, 15 Oct: Sikkim National People’s Party [SNPP] president, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa reiterated the stand of the party to provide five seats to Limboo and Tamang communities from the existing 17 seats in the State Assembly. He asserted that the State government need to take serious and clear stand on this long pending demand of the seat reservation for LT of Sikkim.

He was addressing the party workers and supporters during the 12th anniversary celebration of SNPP here on Thursday. The party was established in the year 2008. The celebration was chaired by two senior citizens from MG Marg, Motilal Bansal and Prem Goyal.

Speaking further on the LT seat issue, Mr Barfungpa stated that SNPP has its stand since inception to reserve seats for LT from the existing 17 seats in the State Assembly and the party also disagree the recommendation of the Burman Report to reserve seats for LT by increase the strength of the State Assembly from 32 to 40. He mentioned that after getting tribal status representatives of LT have been getting five seats from the existing in every election so now the government just have to allot them five seats officially. He asserted that the government need to take a clear and strong stand immediately on this issue.

Mr Barfungpa mentioned that the State government need to come up with economic relief for the people of Sikkim who have still been trying to come out from the economic crisis due to lockdown. He also suggested the State government to make a strong agreement in the interest of people of Sikkim in Teesta Stage IV project in North Sikkim. While welcoming the State government decision to make cancer hospital in South District, he suggested the government to build the super specialty hospital at old STNM hospital premises and dedicated the STNM hospital at Socheygang for diabetic and related disease. He threatened to sit of dharna if the government would use the old STNM hospital premises for Smart City project.

“SNPP is now a registered and recognized political party of the country and this is the gift for the workers and supporters of the party on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of the party,” Mr Barfungpa said. He also thanked the party workers and supporters for stand with the party till these years.

The function was also addressed by an active youth, Bikash Karkidholi and party worker, Dhan Kumar Tamang of SNPP.
