With 41 new cases, Sikkim’s COVID count reaches 3500.

GANGTOK, 15 Oct: Sikkim has witnessed 41 fresh cases of novel coronavirus and discharged of 54 COVID-19 patients from isolation facilities in the last 24 hours ending 8 AM Thursday. The State tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported so far has now reached 3500, in which 3048 patients have already been discharged from isolation facilities. There are now 312 active cases of novel coronavirus in the State, in whom four patients are currently admitted in the ICU facility of STNM hospital.

In the RT-PCR testing of 148 samples at VRD Lab in STNM hospital on Wednesday, 32 were returned positive for COVID-19, while nine more persons were found COVID-19 positive in the rapid antigen testing of 53 samples. All 17 samples were reported negative for COVID-19 in the TrueNat testing. Out of 41 new cases of novel coronavirus in the State, 35 have been reported in East District, 01 in West District and 05 in South District.

In the daily health bulletin on Thursday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia mentioned that seven patients admitted in emergency ward of STNM hospital were tested positive for COVID-19 in the RT-PCR testing.

In the RT-PCR testing, he added three persons from Metro Point Tadong, two from AG quarter Shyari, four from near Girling Dara in Decheling, one from DPH Bhawan ground, one from Singhik Mangan, one from Tathangchen, one from near cooperative in Sichey, one from near Greendale School in Tadong, one from Rongneck, one from Melli Gumpa, one from below Hospital Dara in DPH area, one from near Janta Bhawan in DPH area and one from MG Marg were also reported COVID-19 positive. Likewise, samples of two persons from Rhenock, one from Tarpin and one from Aritar given at Singtam District Hospital were also found positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing, he added.  

Mr Bhutia informed that one 23-years-old lady from Tathangchen and one 30-years-old lady from Manan Kendra, who were also reported COVID-19 positive in RT-PCR, were not traceable in their given phone numbers. On the same, he urged them to contact on the toll-free number or text on the health of Sikkim Facebook page.

He informed that one person from near primary school in Rolay, one from below power house in Kazi Road and one from Rhenock in East District were found positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing. Similarly, one person from Ralong, one from power colony in Jorethang and one from near power office in Namchi in South District and one security staff of Gyalshing District Hospital in West District were also tested COVID-19 positive in RAT, he said.
