GANGTOK, 16 Oct: Sikkim’s tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 3531 with 31 fresh cases of novel coronavirus reported in last 24 hours ending 8 AM Friday. In the other hand, 48 more patients were discharged from isolation facilities on Thursday taking the figure of discharged patients of COVID-19 in Sikkim to 3096. There are now 295 active cases of novel coronavirus in the State, of whom three are currently admitted in ICU facility of STNM hospital.
In the RT-PCR testing at VRD lab in STNM hospital on Thursday, 18 of 124 samples were returned positive for COVID-19, while two more samples were reported COVID-19 positive in the TrueNat testing of 17 samples. Eleven persons were also found positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing of 38 samples.
In the daily health bulletin on Friday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia informed that out of 31 new cases, 25 cases were detected in East District, 01 in West District, 04 in South District and 01 in North District.
While giving the break-up of new cases found in RT-PCR testing, he mentioned that one staff of the Central Referral Hospital from 6th Mile Tadong, one lab staff from Singtam and two health staffs from Rangpo were tested positive for COVID-19. He added that five persons from the containment zone in Lower Sichey, three from Pani House Deorali, two from below SNT colony at Daragaon Tadong, one from Sisa Golai, one from MG Marg, one from the containment zone at DPH area and one from near Gas distribution centre in Bye-pass area were also found positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing. He mentioned that a person from Rongneck and one from Sichey were also reported COVID-19 positive in TrueNat testing.
Likewise, samples of a person from Housing colony at 6th Mile Tadong, one from below Convey ground area and one from Chandmari near Decheling give at CRH, Tadong were tested positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing, Mr Bhutia said. He added that a person from Mangalbaria, one from Rabongla, one from Daragaon and one from Middle Kitam were also found COVID-19 positive in RAT. He added that a person from Soreng in West Sikkim, one person from Sang Bazaar, one from Mamring and one from Mangan in North Sikkim were also tested positive for COVID-19 in RAT.
