Two more COVID deaths takes to to 62 in Sikkim.
GANGTOK, 19 Oct: Sikkim has witnessed two more COVID-19 related deaths taking the State death toll to 62 on Monday. One 60-years-old man from Chumbung in West District died last evening with comorbidities, while another 60-years-old man from Tathangchen in East District succumbed to novel coronavirus this morning.
In the daily health bulletin on Monday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia mentioned that a 60-years-old man from Chumbung was admitted at STNM hospital on 05 October and passed away at around 8:30 AM on Sunday. He added that the patient was diagnosed with severe pneumonitis and acute respiratory distress syndrome and had the comorbid conditions of diabetics and hypertension.
Likewise, another 60-years-old man from Tathangchen, who was admitted in the ICU facility of STNM hospital, passed away at around 6 AM this morning. He informed that the patient was admitted in STNM hospital on 06 October after being tested COVID-19 positive and was in the ICU facility. He said that the patient died with severe pneumonitis and acute respiratory distress syndrome and it was the COVID death.
In the meantime, with no RT-PCR testing as VRD Lab in STNM hospital was closed on Sunday, there were only four fresh cases of novel coronavirus reported in the last 24 hours ending 8 AM Monday. Four persons were tested positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing of 18 samples on Sunday, while all 10 samples tested by TrueNat were returned negative for COVID-19.
The State tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 has crossed 3600-marking and stands at 3601, while the figure of the discharged patients of COVID-19 in the State has further improved to 3195 with the discharge of 11 more patients yesterday. The active cases of novel coronavirus in Sikkim has further come down to 263, of whom three are currently in ICU facility.
Mr Bhutia informed that out of four new cases of COVID-19, three have been reported in East District and one in West District. While giving details of new cases reported in RAT, he informed mentioned one person from Middle Tikpur, Sombaria in West District and one from near Paljor Stadium, one from Chalamthang Pakyong and one from Namcheybong Pakyong were found positive for COVID-19.
