Chief Minister Tamang handed over Ajeevika Grameen Express Yojana vehicles to the self help groups

The Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission, Rural Development Department, Government of Sikkim is supporting various livelihood activities in rural Sikkim. In order to promote on-farm livelihood activities among SHGs, the federation of SHGs is being utilized to promote higher income livelihood activities. In Sikkim, this year, Ajeevika Grameen Express Yojana (AGEY), sub component under National Rural Livelihood Mission is implemented in south and West Sikkim. There were 18 SHG members @ one per each block of South and West Districts. Out of which 14 beneficiaries consisting of 7 beneficiaries from West District and 7 Beneficiaries from South District have opted for Mahindra Bolero Pick up vehicle. The vehicles were inaugurated and handed over them Chief Minister of Sikkim, PS Tamang (Goley) in the presence of Minister, Rural Development Ven. Sonam Lama, Principal Secretary/RDD, CS Rao and Commissioner/RDD, Dr P Senthil Kumar and other officials and staff of the Department and SHG members in a function held at Tashiling Secretariat on 20 Oct, 2020. The Objective of the AGEY scheme is to provide an alternative source of livelihoods to members of SHGs by facilitating them to operate public transport services in backward rural areas and to provide safe, affordable and community monitored rural transport services to connect remote villages with key services and amenities including access to markets, education and health for the overall economic development of the area. Under the Scheme, all 18 Blocks of South and West Sikkim were approved to provide one Utility/transport vehicles @ One vehicle per Block. Under the scheme the SHG federation will receive a grant of Rs. 6 Lakhs per vehicle as a grant from Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission and the selected SHG member will receive it as an interest free loan. Once the repayment is received by the federation, the amount will be again provided to the next selected SHG member for the same purpose and will be revolved continuously.

During the program Chief Minister also handed over a certificate of appreciation which was awarded to SISCO Bank for performing well in SHG credit linkage, certificate of appreciation to Duga SRLM Block for performing well in the digital SHG accounting system, State Level SHG Award Certificate to Sky Star SHG, Khamdong Block and to Jagriti SHG, Pakyong Block and State Level SHG Federation Award to Chalisey Ward Development Society, East Sikkim. In the program, Chief Minister motivated the SHG members to utilize the utility vehicle to earn income and revolve the income through WDS to induct more vehicles to enhance income of the SHGs in their respective wards and also advised the project staff to provide necessary support in operating these vehicles by the Self Help Groups. HCM also assured that all Government support to SHGs will be extended throughout the Sikkim for their better performance and to enhance the income of the SHG members.
