With 34 new cases and 35 discharges, Sikkim’s active COVID cases settle at 253
Gangtok, 21 Oct:
Sikkim’s tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 reached 3,677 on Wednesday with the detection of 34 fresh cases of novel coronavirus in the previous 24 hours. East Sikkim continues to report the highest numbers with 28 of the 34 new cases being reported from the district while four were reported from West District, two from South District and none from North Sikkim.
Meanwhile, 35 more patients were discharged from isolation facilities on Tuesday to further improve the number of discharged COVID-19 patients in Sikkim to 3,280. As a result, Sikkim now has 253 active COVID-19 cases in the State.
Five COVID-19 patients are currently admitted in the ICU facility of STNM Hospital.
RT-PCR testing of 107 samples at the VRD Lab on Tuesday returned 12 positive results, while eight new cases of COVID-19 were detected in TruNat testing of 36 samples. 14 persons were found positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing of 62 samples.
While giving the break-up of the new cases found in RT-PCR testing, State IEC Officer, Sonam G Bhutia, informed that one person from the Church Road area in Upper Arithang, one from near White Hall, one from below TV Tower in Chandmari, one from below Hospital Dara in DPH area, two from near Ruchi Clinic Gangtok, one admitted in the Emergency ward of STNM hospital, four from Rhenock and one person of CRH from IBM Rangpo were found positive for COVID-19.
Likewise, two persons from near Lingdok Junior High School, one from Singtam, one from Pacheykhani, one from Deorali, one from near Haat Bazaar in Rangpo and one near Cooperative in Sichey tested positive in TruNat, he added.
A 53-year-old female, who tested positive for COVID-19 in TruNat could not be contacted over the phone number provided by her and the State IEC officer has appealed to her to contact the authorities immediately.
Cases detected via rapid antigen testing are: a person from below Tamang Gumpa in Sichey, one from Rawtey Rumtek, one from near the Taxi Stand in Syari, one from the Pani House area, one from near Joredhara-5th Mile Tadong, two from SMIT Majhitar and one from near the Sirwani Junior High School.
Likewise, one person from Namchi and one from near Children’s Park in Kazitar in South District and one from Timberbong-Soreng and three from Gyalshing Bazaar in West District were also found positive in COVID-19 via RAT, it is informed.
