ABC at Majhitar School

Gangtok, 01 Nov:

PFA, People For Animals, Sikkim, in association with SARAH [Sikkim Anti-Rabies and Animal Health] programme, supported by Majhitar Samaj, initiated an Animal Birth Control programme in the region starting with a camp at Majhitar School here on Sunday.

90 dogs of different breeds from the West Pendam constituency and its neighbouring constituencies surgically sterilization at the camp, a press release informs.

“Many small towns with a stray dog problem are killing them because they do not have sterilization programmes. To stop this, the ABC (Animal Birth Control) programme was initiated. ABC, developed by WHO, is a practical and humane solution to control the street dog population and eradicate rabies," PFA members explain.

The programme was coordinated by PFA member Anu Thami along with the other members.

Dr Shams U Ahmed with his team from SARAH attended to the animals.
