SPYF welcomes new rules for mainline taxis
Gangtok, 02 Nov:
Sikkim Progressive Youth Forum [SPYF] has welcomed the Transport Department’s decision to increase the passenger limit in mainline taxis to 7 and reduce the taxi fare to 1.3 times the normal rate. Earlier, the passenger limit was 5 and fare of 1.8 times the normal rate.
SPYF members met the Transport Secretary today to make further suggestions regarding public transport in the state.
The members have urged the Transport Department to ensure that the new fare and passenger limit is followed by taxis and rate charts are put up in taxi stands and bus stands.
“We have urged the department to strictly regulate the fares, especially in syndicate taxi stands. We have also requested them to consider allowing pillion rider in two-wheelers. We got some positive response today and are hopeful that the department will take our suggestions positively,” said SPYF members.
Last week, SPYF had launched a sit-in protest outside DC Office, Sichey demanding reduction in taxi fares.
