PIB webinar on Atma Nirbhar SMEs of Assam


Gangtok, 03 Nov (PIB): The global competitiveness of AtmaNirbhar Small and Medium Enterprises of Assam bolsters its competitive advantage with leaner and nimble Infrastructure and Services Industry of the region, experts opined in a Webinar organised by Press Information Bureau, Guwahati on the topic here today. A galaxy of experts from Industry fraternity, Government sector along with academicians deliberated and discussed about the potential of Small and Medium Enterprises from industry and policy perspective.

Principal Advisor at TRAI, Sunil Bajpai said that Services Sector along with Telecommunication sector are changing the dynamic of market and the potential marketability of products of Small and Medium Enterprises. Shri Bajpai said that data, information and knowledge driven industries are leveraging the potential of technology and communication to market products. He said that the initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India and Stand Up India, Van Dhan Yojana for tribal products are game-changers in the market arena. Shri Bajpai said that Structural reforms are helping in greater macroeconomic stability and increasing productivity with better quality products and services.

Deputy Director General, YGSC Kishore Babu, Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications said that telecommunication provides the infrastructure for Small and Medium Enterprises. He said that it is pertinent that services sector along with other tertiary sectors are also providing the competitive advantage to the manufacturing sector by better service delivery with effective and efficacious quality of services.

CIDC Vishwakarma Awardee 2019 and ED, DK Kamra, Airport Authority of India said that domestic economic issues related to employment growth, consumption, investments and trade are demand and supply-driven and related to business potential. He said that airlines are an add-on in the value chain of business as it help not in market connectivity, but also in opening vitas of opportunities in Assam. He said that there are myriad of business potential of Assam including in Eco-tourism, Tea sector, Food and Agro-allied sectors, Adventure tourism, connectivity with South Asian Countries, among many others.

President-Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, Sunil Tandon, Tata Teleservices, said that the biggest multiplier effect of the infrastructure sector would be on job creation in sectors like telecommunications and construction. He said that the Small and Medium Enterprises and its investment-led growth has the potential to strategically leverage its strength in Lean Manufacturing, Quality Products, Technology, Marketing and Information and Communication Technology driven endeavours. He also emphasised on building capacity and nurturing Culture based Business Development.

Enunciating the provisos in Constitution of India, Advocate Delhi High Court, Abdur Rehman Mallick and former Regional Director (East) for Indiatourism Kolkata, JP Shaw, Ministry of Tourism said that the resources and its business potential in Assam, particularly the Coal, Cement, Oil, Tea and Textile sector are evolving and has huge market and business development potential.

Delving on the Growth potential of Industry, Infrastructure and Small and Medium Enterprises in Assam, Deputy General Manager Corporate Communications at Numaligarh Refinery, Madhuchanda Adhikari, Golaghat district of Assam, said that the Competitive advantage of environment friendly business products and services are an add-on to the efficacy and growth potential. She said that Assam has Human Resources potential, which could be leveraged for its vital business growth and development.

IndiaTourism, Sayak Nandi, Ministry of Tourism and Professional from Airlines Industry, Nilotpol Dutta said that the Railways, Roadways and Airlines connectivity have added to tapestry of opportunities for entrepreneurial sectors also.

The webinar was planned and coordinated by Joint Director (M&C), Samrat Bandyopadhyay, PIB, Guwahati. Deputy Director, Pallav Chakravorty, PIB welcomed the experts as the webinar delved into details on the various aspects of the topic such as potential of Small and Medium Enterprises in Assam. Along with students, eminent journalists and other government senior officials from Doordarshan Guwahati, Regional Outreach Bureau, Guwahati, All India Radio Guwahati were also present on the occasion.
