Sikkim recorded two more COVID-related deaths on Thursday in the passing away of an 84-year-old male from Mamley, Kamrang in South District at STNM hospital and a 38-year-old male from Ranipool in East District at the Central Referral Hospital, Tadong. With this, Sikkim count of COVID- deaths has climbed to 75.
In the daily health bulletin on Thursday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia informed that the 84-year-old breathed his last at around 11:45 PM Wednesday night. The patient had chronic asthma and fluids in his lungs and had been referred from Namchi District Hospital to CRH and then onwards to STNM Hospital. He was found positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR only a day earlier on 03 November.
The 38-year-old from Ranipool, meanwhile, was admitted into CRH in a critical condition on 01 November with poly-trauma and fracture and tested positive in RT-PCR screening on 02 November. He passed away at around 2:30 AM early Thursday morning and is the first COVID-death reported at CRH.
In the meantime, Sikkim’s tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 4,039 on Thursday with 29 fresh cases reported in the 24 hours ending 8 AM Thursday. On the other hand, 38 COVID patients were released from facility and home isolation on Wednesday taking the figure of discharged patients in Sikkim to 3,695.
The State currently has 240 active cases of novel coronavirus, of whom three are in the ICU facility of STNM Hospital.
The 29 cases were picked up from testing of 178 samples on Wednesday; of these, 22 were detected in RT-PCR testing of 130 samples, one in TruNat testing of 13 samples and six via rapid antigen testing of 35 samples.
Out of the 29 new cases in the State, 23 have been reported from East District and six from West Sikkim.
In RT-PCR testing, one case was detected from Pakyong, one from the containment zone below AG Church-Development Area, one from Sichey, one from near Shiva Mandir-Pani House, one from Pabong-South Sikkim, one from Bermiok, one from near Police headquarters, one from near Shiva Mandir-Sichey, one from Chandmari, one from Burtuk, a primary contact from the containment zone at Ninety Bazaar, Sichey, one from near Durga Mandir Rawtey Rumtek, one from below Saraswati Mandir at 5th Mile Tadong, one from Sichey and three from Sang.
Mr Bhutia informed that five SSB personnel stationed at Gyalshing in West District were also found positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR.
One person from Lingtam, Rongli in East District was found positive for COVID-19 in TruNat screening.
Likewise, two people from Lingding, one from Upper Sichey, one from near Saraswati Mandir, 5th Mile Tadong and one from 32 Mile in East District and one person from Lower Pambong in West District tested positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing.
