Sikkim’s Covid toll climbs to 78 with two more deaths

Gangtok, 08 Nov:

Sikkim witnessed two more COVID-19 related deaths with the demise of two patients, both with co-morbidities, on Saturday taking the death toll due to novel coronavirus in the State to 78.

In the daily health bulletin on Sunday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia informed that a 90-year-old person from Majhitar in East District passed away at 9:44 PM on Saturday night. He detailed that the patient was admitted to STNM Hospital on 05 October after testing positive for COVID-19 and was in the ICU facility. The patient had the co-morbid condition of a heart problem.

Overnight, a 50-year-old from Daramdin in West District passed away at his home at around 1 AM early Sunday morning. Mr Bhutia informed that the patient was found positive for COVID-19 on 03 October at Central Referral Hospital, Tadong and opted for home isolation. He informed that the patient had co-morbidities of hypertension and diabetes.

Meanwhile, 50 fresh cases took the number of officially detected cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim to 4,245 on Sunday.

On other hand, 89 more patients were released from the facility and home isolation on Saturday, which improved the figure of discharged patients in the State to 3,810. There are still 273 active cases of novel coronavirus in the State, of whom three are currently admitted in the ICU facility at STNM Hospital.

The 50 new cases were reported from the testing of 210 samples on Saturday, of which 39 were detected in RT-PCR testing of 172 samples, three from TruNat testing of 15 samples and eight from rapid antigen testing of 23 samples.

40 of the new cases have been reported from East District, one from West District and nine from South District.

The break-up of the cases reveals that four persons from above ICDS centre in Upper Shyari, two from opposite Tamang Gumpa in Sichey, two from 5th Mile Tadong and two from Majhitar were found positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.

Of the new cases reported from in and around Gangtok, one was from near STNM hospital, one from Forest Quarters in Deorali, one from 6th Mile Tadong, one from the containment zone in Upper Sichey, one from opposite Urban PHC of CRH in Tadong, one from near the petrol pump at Bojoghari, one from Friends’ colony in 5th Mile Tadong, one from Naya Bazaar in MG Marg, one from opposite ICFAI College in Sichey, one from near petrol pump in Chandmari, one from Adampool, one from Development Area, one from Mukhia Gaon, one from Gairi Gaon Tadong, one from the containment zone in Sichey, one patient admitted in respiratory ward of STNM hospital, one from Mangar Gaon in Bojoghari, one from DPH area and one from Ranipool, one person from Panihouse, one from Lumsey, one more from Tadong and one from Block IV quarter in Upper Shyari.

Elsewhere in the district, one case was detected in Ranipool, one at Kadamtam and one from Central Pendam.

Mr Bhutia further informs that one person from Rangrang, one from Boomtar, one from Rabongla, two from Namchi, one from Alley-Namchi and one from Sumbuk in South District were also found positive for COVID-19.

A person from Rabongla, one from Yangthang, one from Majhigaon-Jorethang, one from Kyongsa Gyalshing and a staff member of Singtam District hospital were also found positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.
