Sikkim’s COVID death toll reaches 80

GANGTOK, 10 Nov:

Sikkim has recorded one more COVID-19 related death with the passing away of a 72-year-old man from MG Marg last night. The death is recorded as a COVID death with comorbidities and this is the 80th COVID-19 related death in Sikkim.

In his daily health bulletin on Tuesday, Health Department State IEC Officer, SonamGyaltsen Bhutia mentioned that the patient was admitted in STNM hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 in TruNat testing on 01 November and following some complications he was shifted to ICU ward on 05 November. He added that the patient passed away in ICU last night. The patient had comorbidities of hypertension and diabetes.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases of novel coronavirus in Sikkim has risen to 305 with the report of 51 fresh cases in the last 24 hours ending 8 AM Tuesday. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the State has also crossed the 4300-mark and stands at 4308, in which 3839 patients have already been discharged from facility and home isolation so far.

Thirteen COVID-19 patients were released from facility and home isolation on Monday. Five patients are currently admitted in the ICU facility of STNM hospital.

Fifty-one new cases of novel coronavirus have been reported from the testing of 298 samples on Monday, in which 32 were found positive in the RT-PCR testing of 171 samples, five were reported from TruNat testing of 27 samples and 14 new cases came out in the rapid antigen testing of 100 samples.

In the daily health bulletin on Tuesday, Mr Bhutia mentioned that of the 51 new cases of novel coronavirus in the State, 49 have been reported in East District and 02 in West District.

While giving the details of new cases, he mentioned that one from ThengBasti, Chungthang, one from housing colony in 5th Mile Tadong, one from near Greendale School, Tadong, one from the containment zone near West Point senior secondary school in Tathangchen, one from Samdur, one from 5th Mile Tadong, one from Bojoghari, one from Ranka, one from near TaktseSheda, Bojoghari, one from Pangthang, one from GoskhanDara, Shyari, one from Tadong bazaar, one from Helipad, one from Sichey, one from Zero Point, Gangtok and one from Development Area tested positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR testing.

Likewise, two primary contacts from the containment zone in GairiGaon, Tadong, one from JNV quarter, Phodong, one from Luing, one from 4th Mile Kumrek, Rangpo, two from Church Road, Gangtok, one from police family quarter, Gangtok, one from Tadong, one from near Sikkim Press, Tadong, one from Vajra area, one from Pani House, two from Bojoghari, one from East Pendam and one admitted patient in STNM hospital were also found COVID-19 positive in RT-PCR testing.

He informed that one person from Rongyek, one from Kupup, one from below AniGumpa in Ranka, one from police family quarter, Gangtok and one person Bihar returnee reported positive for COVID-19 in TruNat.

Likewise, one person from the containment zone in Lumsey, Tadong, one from Majhitar, Rangpo, one from Radang 32nd Mile, one from TNA quarter near White Hall, one from KheseySamdong, five from Rhenock and one from near mechanical workshop in 5th Mile Tadong in East District and one person from HeeGaon and one from Legship in West District were found positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing.
