Three more Covid-positive patients pass away, toll reaches 95. COVID CASES TOUCH 4577 IN SIKKIM

Sikkim’s COVID-related death toll reached 95 with confirmation arriving today that the three more COVID-positive people have passed away.
In the daily health bulletin on Wednesday, State IEC Officer Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia informed that a 96-years-old male from Upper Khesay, Samdong in East District, who was in home isolation, passed away at around 8:30 AM on Tuesday morning.
The patient, it is informed, was brought to STNM Hospital on 12 November with complaints of diarrhoea and vomiting and was kept in the “suspect” ward. He eventually tested positive for Novel Coronavirus on 13 November and was discharged to home isolation on the request of the family the next day. The 96-year-old, it is informed, also had diabetes.
The second death was of a 56-year-old male from Namchey in Pakyong, East District who passed away at STNM Hospital on Wednesday morning.
The patient was found positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing on 12 November and was immediately admitted to hospital. He however passed away at around 7AM this morning due to acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Also this morning, a 95-year-old male from Simkharka Ben in South District passed away at Temi primary health centre.
The patient was brought to Temi PHC after developing some medical complications and passed away after some time in the PHC itself. He mentioned that the patient was found positive in RAT. He was suffering from hypertension.
Meanwhile, Sikkim’s tally of the confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 4,577 with 29 fresh cases of novel coronavirus being reported on Wednesday.
Of these new cases, 22 have been reported from East District, one from West District and six from South Sikkim.
The 29 cases were picked up from testing of 196 samples on Tuesday. While 16 returned positive from the 140 samples tested by RT-PCR, one new case was detected in TrueNat testing of 16 samples, and 12 from rapid antigen testing of 40 samples.
In the meantime, 38 more patients were released from facility and home isolations on Tuesday to further improve the number of so discharged COVID-19 patients to 4,098 in Sikkim.
There are still 300 active cases in the State, of whom four are currently admitted in the ICU facility of the COVID-dedicated STNM Hospital.
Two primary contacts from the containment zone in Chandmari and another person from the containment zone at Metro Point-Tadong were found positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR screening.
Likewise, one person from Daragaon-Tadong, one from Ramudamu Colony in Bye-Pass area, one from Dugalakha in Pakyong, one from below government college in Burtuk, one from near NHPC guest house at 5th Mile-Tadong, one from Pani House area, one from 6th Mile Tadong and one from near Sikkim Jewels in Tadong are also found COVID-19 positive in RT-PCR testing as well.
He added that one person from Tinzey Mangshila and another from Tingchim Mangshila in North District, who were brought to the emergency ward of STNM Hospital, also tested positive for COVID-19 in RT-PCR as did two persons from District Hospital Namchi in South District.
One person from Daragaon Tadong was found positive for COVID-19 in TrueNat testing.
Similarly, one person from near SAI Mandir at Assangthang, one from Tharpu Namchi, one from Rongbul and one from Ben Simkharka in South District, one from Upper Radu Ghurasey Dara in West District and one person from Tadong, one from Khamdong, one from near the BDO office at Nandok, one from above Coir Board Office in Bye Pass area, one from 90 Bazaar-Sichey and two from Luing were found positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing.
