245 new cases and two more Covid deaths in Sikkim

Sikkim’s count of active Covid cases edged past the 3,400-mark to 3,401 with 245 new cases being reported in the last 24 hours. Also today, the State lost two more lives to the virus to take the Covid toll in the State to 348; of these, 212 deaths have occurred in the second wave since 22 April.

While one Covid patient is reported to have passed away at STNM Hospital, another death was reported from West District Hospital at Gyalshing, the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department informs.

The 245 new cases were picked up from the testing of 1,700 samples on Monday giving Sikkim a daily test positivity rate 14.40%.

Sikkim’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 now stands at 27,125. The second wave alone accounts for 19,967 of the cases, these 103 days since 22 April, 2021, contributing 74% of the State’s cumulative case-load.

Of the latest cases, 151 were detected in RT-PCR testing of 976 samples and 94 more testing positive in rapid antigen testing of 719 samples.

While 68 cases were registered in East District, 103 were in West District, 73 in South District and 01 in North District.

In the meantime, 165 more persons were discharged from home and facility isolation on Monday after completing their mandated period of quarantine. Sikkim’s figure of recovered Covid cases has accordingly now crossed the 23,000-mark and stands at 23,102.

Of the 3,401 active cases, only 105 are with symptoms severe enough to require hospitalization while the rest are recovering either in home or facility isolation. Among those in hospital, 17 were admitted in the last 24 hours and 10 patients are currently in the ICU facilities at STNM Hospital and Central Referral Hospital.
