257 new COVID cases recorded in Sikkim

GANGTOK, 19 Jul:

Sikkim recorded a surge of 257 fresh cases of novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking the state tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 23,649. Out of 257 new cases in the State, 111 cases were recorded in West District, 80 in South District, 65 in East District and 01 in North District.

As per the daily COVID-19 report of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department, 257 samples returned positive for COVID-19 during the testing of 1335 samples on Sunday and the daily positivity rate was recorded at 19.2%.

A total of 211 new cases were found in RT-PCR testing of 1198 samples, while 45 persons were found positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing of 131 samples and one more new case was recorded in TruNat testing of six samples.

Among the new cases of COVID-19 in the State, only nine COVID patients were hospitalized and rest were sent to COVID Care Centres and home isolation.

As per the report no new COVID death has been reported in the last 24 hours and the state COVID death toll still stands at 324.

On the other hand, 136 persons were discharged from home isolation on Sunday improving the figure of recovered cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim to 20,634. The current state recovery rate of COVID-19 is 88.2%.

Active cases of coronavirus have slightly increased to 2429 in the State. There are 13 COVID patients currently admitted in ICU facilities of STNM hospital and Central Referral Hospital, Tadong.
