260 runners take part in State Day Run

Department of Sports & Youth Affairs organized the State Day Run and a friendly match of Traditional Archery here on Wednesday. Both events were a part of the 47th State Day Celebration 2022.

A total of 260 runners participated in the State Day Run of three miles, which was flagged off by Special Secretary Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Sumita Pradhan from MG Marg this morning. The run covered the route from MG Marg to Hospital Dara, Zero Point, Bhanu Path, Secretariat and finally ended at Old Guards Ground, Tathangchen.

In men’s category, Rinchen Lepcha finished the run in the first position with the timing of 12:05 minutes, while Som Bahadur Gurung [12:29 minutes], Suraj Sharma [12:39 minutes] and Dhananjay Thakur [12:56 minutes] stood on the second, third and fourth positions respectively.

Likewise, Phurba Tamang stood in first position with the timing of 15:49 minutes in women’s category by leaving behind Yudemit Lepcha [17:18 minutes] on second position, Srijana Chettri [17:32 minutes] on third position and PhurDiki Sherpa [17:39 minutes] on fourth position.

The State Day Run was followed by a friendly match in Traditional Archery between Denzong VII and Tathangchen VII here at Archery Field, Tathangchen. The friendly match was won by Denzong VII. It has been informed that this friendly match was also a demonstration of the traditional form of archery of Sikkim to the younger generations for its preservation and promotion.

The match was attended by Sikkim Olympic Association general secretary, Arjuna Awardee Jaslal Pradhan as the chief guest and Secretary Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Raju Basnet was present as the guest of honour, who handed over trophies and certificates to its winners.
