3 deaths and 137 new Covid cases in Sikkim

Gangtok, 22 Jun: Sikkim recorded two more Covid deaths and 137 newcases of novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking the state's tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 19,458 and the number

of Covid fatalities to 296. Out of the three deaths, two were reported from STNM Hospital, while one Covid-positive person passed away at the COVID Care Centre set up in Namchi Girls School in South

District where 13 people are currently undergoing isolation. On a more hopeful note, Sikkim continued its record of posting more recoveries than new cases with 152 more people completing their home isolation for a long enough duration without symptoms to get discharged. Of the nearly 19.5K cases recorded in Sikkim thus far, 16,481 have already recovered while 2,430 Covid-positive people are

on their way to recovery under home isolation with symptoms mild enough not to require hospitalisation.

As per the Daily Report of COVID-19 released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme

of the Health Department collating data as of 8AM this morning, 137 people tested positive in the testing of 844 samples on Monday. A total of 75 persons were found positive for COVID-19

in rapid antigen testing of 524 samples while 61 more tested positive in RT-PCR testing of 307 samples and one more case was picked up in TruNat screening of 13 samples. The daily positivity rate of

COVID-19 in Sikkim has slightly increased to 16.2%. Of the 137 new cases, 69 were registered in East District, 41 in West District and 27 in South District. There are currently only 117 Covid patients admitted in hospitals here, 23 of whom were admitted today. At present, there are 12 Covid patients admitted in ICU facilities at STNM hospital and Central Referral Hospital, Tadong.
