3 new Covid cases, 2 recoveries in Sikkim
Gangtok, 19 May:
Sikkim recorded a daily test positivity rate of 2.4% on Thursday with three cases of Covid-19 detected from the screening of 123 samples in the last 24 hours. All the three cases were registered in the East District where 108 samples were screened. All the nine samples in North Sikkim, 4 in West district and two in South returned negative.
Over the same period, the State recorded two new recoveries. Significantly, the one minor child who had been admitted into hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 was discharged yesterday after the symptoms had subsided.
With the two recoveries and three new cases, the State now has eight active Covid cases, only one of whom is in hospital at present and the rest recovering under home isolation.
The tally of the confirmed cases of Covid-19 recorded since testing began here on 28 Feb, 2020, over two years back, has now reached 39,165. While the cumulative test positive rate covering the past two years of Covid in Sikkim comes in at 11.6%, the average test positive rate for the past seven days is 1.3%.
As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department, the Covid death toll in Sikkim holds at 452 with no new Covid deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Sikkim has not seen a Covid death since the 452nd death was recorded on 27 March earlier this year.
In continuation of the vaccination drive, Sikkim administered 65 doses of CorBEvax to children in the 12 to 14 years age-group on Wednesday and 31 to 15 to 18 year olds who received Covaxin shots. Likewise, 10 adults received the second dose of Covishield yesterday while 80 took their precautionarythird dose.
