320 micro irrigation units distributed to farmers

Department of Agriculture, Government of Sikkim, distributed micro irrigation units to 320 beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sichayee Yojana (PMKSY) at Bermiok Cluster, South District on 15 Feb, 2022.

The program had Up-Adakshya South district, Bhim Lakhey was the chief guest in the presence of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha WLC president, Phurba Bhutia & Pempa Tshering Bhutia (social worker) as a guests of honour.

During the programme, Dr Nation Rai, Agriculture Development Officer mentioned that the farmers of our state are availing various schemes and other facilities under the stewardship of central and state government for the benefit and progress of farming communities. Further, he also imparted knowledge on Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) Scheme for farmers that targets to double their income.

Up-Adakshya, Bhim Lakhey outlined agriculture as an important source of livelihood and added that the State Government is dedicated and committed towards upgrading Sikkimese people from consumers to producers. Further, he directed the concerned department to check the benefits being distributed and ensure that the schemes are implemented properly.

It may be mentioned here that each of the320 beneficiaries received 1000ltrs tank, poly pipes, motor pumps, spring sets and drip sets. The beneficiaries were mostly from Bermiok, Tokdey, Thangsing under BermiokTokal GPU.

Micro irrigation system covers a minimum of 0.22 hectare of vegetable cultivation and 0.4 hectare of cardamom cultivation. The total irrigation units were distributed under "Per Drop More Crop" under PMKSY, being implemented by the Department of Agriculture.
