GANGTOK, 09 Sept: Sikkim administered 8,907 doses of Covishield vaccine for COVID-19 on Wednesday. Out of 8,907 vaccine doses, 469 persons received the first dose of the vaccine and 8,438 persons completed their vaccination schedule with the second jab yesterday. With this, 38.05% of the 18+ population in the state have received both doses of the vaccine so far.

In category-wise vaccinations carried out yesterday in the State, seven healthcare workers and one frontline worker completed their vaccination schedule with the second dose and 269 persons in age group of 45 years & above [34 first dose & 225 second dose] and 6,639 persons in age group of 18 to 44 years [435 first dose & 5,204 second dose] were also vaccinated for COVID-19.

In the meantime, 60 persons tested positive for COVID-19 during the testing of 733 samples in the State on Wednesday, which brings the state’s daily positivity rate to 7.8%.

As per daily COVID-19 report released by Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department, 26 new cases were found in RT-PCR testing of 319 samples, while 34 more persons reported positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing of 403 samples.

Of the 60 new cases in the State, 33 were registered in East District, 18 in West District, 07 in South District and 02 in North District. The tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 30,444 in the State.

On the other hand, Sikkim’s figure of recovered cases of COVID-19 has further improved to 28,914 with the discharge of 63 more persons from home isolation yesterday. The current recovery rate of COVID-19 in Sikkim stands at 95.9%.

The number of active cases of coronavirus has also come down to 858 in Sikkim with good number of recoveries of COVID patients on daily basis in the State. Eleven COVID patients are currently admitted in ICU facilities of STNM hospital and Central Referral Hospital. Likewise, there are four new admissions of COVID patients in STNM hospital.

On a positive note, Sikkim has not witnessed any new COVID death for last two days keeping the state’s COVID death toll at 376.
