5 fresh cases and no new Covid deaths in Sikkim

Sikkim reported five fresh cases of Covid-19 today, taking the state's tally of confirmed cases since testing began on 28 Feb, 2020, to 39,077. These five cases were picked up from the screening of 228 samples at a daily test positivity rate of 2.2%.

As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department, while two people tested positive in RT-PCR screening of 147 samples, three more cases were detected in rapid antigen testing of 81 samples.

Of the new cases, two were registered in East District, two in South and one in West District.

In the meantime, 06 Covid patients were discharged from home isolation yesterday after making full recoveries to bring the count of recovered cases to 37,824. Sikkim's current recovery rate is 98.7%.

At present, there are 47 active cases of Covid-19 in the State, of whom one patient is down with severe symptoms, three have moderate symptoms and the rest, 43, are either asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms.

Six of the Covid patients are admitted in hospital, one of whom is in ICU.

Meanwhile, no new Covid deaths were reported in the State for the third consecutive day today and the toll continues to hold at 443.

On the other hand, the state administered 136 doses of Covaxin to children aged between 15 to 18 years on Tuesday - 116 completing their vaccination schedule with the second dose and 20 getting their first dose yesterday.

Among the adults, while 19 completed their vaccination schedule with the second dose of Covishield yesterday, 12 received their first jab. Also yesterday, 59 people received their booster dose yesterday to take the cumulative count of so vaccinated people here to 37,758.
