5 more Covid cases and 839more vaccinations in Sikkim
Gangtok, 04 Feb: Even as the number of daily cases of Covid-19 in Sikkim remains in single-digits, the total number of the confirmed cases crossed the 6100-mark today and now stands at 6,103 with the detection of five fresh cases of novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours. In the meantime, Sikkim
registered nine more recoveries on Wednesday to bring down the number of active cases to 82. The total number of recovered Covid patients in the State has accordingly further improved to 5,791.
In his daily health bulletin on Thursday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia, informed that the five new cases were picked up in the testing of 225 samples on Wednesday. All five cases were detected in RT-PCR testing of 184 samples, while 14 samples tested by TrueNat and 27 by rapid antigen testing returned negative for COVID-19. Among the new cases are one person from Lower Tarku in South Sikkim, one from SMIT Complex, Majhitar and one from Middle Sichey. 39-year-old Binita Rai from Gangtok and 33-year-old Shiva Raj Kumar who had given his address as Club Mahindra remain untraceable over the phone numbers provided by them during testing. Mr Bhutia informs that upon enquiring with Club Mahindra, they learned that no person by the same Shiva Raj Kumar was
with them. On the vaccination front, the process began for frontline workers on Thursday from West District with the vaccination of 60 of them. Likewise, 241 health workers in East District [Rural], 86 at STNM hospital, 49 at Urban PHC, Gangtok, 100 at Central Referral Hospital, Tadong, 152 in North District and 151 in South District were vaccinated. A total of 839 persons were vaccinated in Sikkim today.
