5 new infections take Sikkim's active Covid load to 29, all asymptomatic or mild

Sikkim recorded five new Covid infections on Thursday taking the state's tally of confirmed cases recorded here in the past two years to 39,229. All five cases were registered in East Sikkim where 153 of the 159 samples screened in the last 24 hours were processed. With this, Sikkim recorded a daily test positivity rate of 3.1% today.

In the meantime, two more Covid patients made full recoveries and were discharged from home isolation over the same 24 hours.

As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department, while two of the cases were detected in RT-PCR of 106 samples, three were picked up in rapid antigen testing of 53 samples.

At present, there are 29 active Covid cases in the State, all of whom are either asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms. That said, seven of them are admitted in hospital.

No new Covid deaths were reported in the State in the past 24 hours and the toll continues to hold at 454.

On the vaccination front, 60 children in the 12 to 14 age-group received their CorBEvax shots on Wednesday while 31 aged between 15 to 18 years received their Covaxin shots. Similarly, 69 adults took their regular Covishiled jabs and 99 others received their precautionary third dose.
