Summit Report

Gangtok, 03 Jul:

Sikkim reported six fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours even as two more Covid patients made full recoveries and were discharged from home isolation over the same period. The State now has 47 active Covid cases, only of whom is down with moderate symptoms while the rest are either asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms.

Reassuringly, no Covid deaths were reported in the past 24 hours and the State’s Covid toll continues to hold at 454.

Of the 47 Covid patients, seven are admitted in hospital, all in the regular Covid wards and none in ICU.

Today’s six cases were picked up from the screening 148 samples in the past 24 hours to give Sikkim a daily test positivity rate of 4% today. After having hit zero a few weeks back, Covid cases have inched up in numbers over the recent days and the weekly test positivity rate for Sikkim reflects this at 4.7%. This number, however, is substantially lower than the cumulative average of 11.4% that Sikkim has clocked since testing began here more than two years back on 28 Feb, 2020. Since then, a little of 3.42 lakh tests have returned 39,254 positive samples.

Of today’s six cases, five were registered in East Sikkim and one in South Sikkim.

In the meantime, Sikkim administered 82 doses of CorBEvax vaccine to children aged between 12 to 14 years and 57 doses of Covaxin to those in the 15 to 18 age-group on Saturday. Also on Saturday, 96 adults took their regular Covishield shots while 543 received their precautionary third dose.
