7,697 people receive vaccine jabs, 79 new cases, 93 recoveries and no new deaths in Sikkim

A total of 7,697 people received Covid vaccines in Sikkim on Saturday. Of these, 570 received their first dose while 6,716 completed their vaccine schedule with the second dose in the State yesterday. As the State begins a new phase of reopening, these numbers should make everyone more confident about the process because even though infections have come down, they continue to remain substantially worrisome.

Sikkim recorded 79 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours taking the state’s tally of the confirmed cases to 30,242. Out of these 79 new cases, 20 were registered in East District, 41 in West District, 15 in South District and three in North District.

On the other hand, Sikkim’s Covid death toll continue to hold at 373 with no new COVID deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

As per the Daily Report of COVID-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department, the 79 cases were picked up from the testing of 666 samples on Saturday giving the state a daily test positivity rate to 11.8%.

While 44 of the cases were detected in RT-PCR testing of 370 samples, 34 people tested positive in rapid antigen testing of 288 samples and one case was picked up in CBNAAT testing of eight samples.

On the other hand, the number of recovered cases further improved to 28,617 with the discharge of 93 people from home and facility isolation after making full recoveries.

The number of active Covid cases has also come down to 697 and there were only three new hospitalizations among COVID patients. Meanwhile, there are 10 COVID patients currently under treatment in ICU facilities at STNM hospital and Central Referral Hospital.
