Active cases continue to drop in Sikkim and vaccination climb

The number of active Covid cases in Sikkim now stand at 600 with 58 new recoveries reported in the past 24 hours. The number of new cases came in at one less at 57,and what comes as welcome news is that there no new Covid deaths over the same period. What is more, Sikkim leads the country in the highest proportion of its adult population fully vaccinated with the latest reports informing that 74% of the above-18 population here having received both the jabs of the vaccine.
Sikkim’s count of recovered cases has improved to 30,111, the Covid toll at 387 and the cumulative number of Covid-positive cases recorded in the State since testing began on 28 Feb, 2020, at 31,412.
As per the Daily Report of COVID-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department this morning, 57 new cases were picked up from the testing of 626 samples on Tuesday, giving Sikkim a daily test positivity rate of 9.1%.
A total of 42 new cases were detected in RT-PCR testing of 372 samples and 15 more returned positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing of 254 samples.
Out of the 57 new cases, 37 were registered in East District, six in West District, 12 in South District and two in North Sikkim.
While most of the patients are recovering under home or facility isolation, five new COVID patients were hospitalized in the past 24 hours, while six patients were currently admitted in ICU facilities at STNM Hospital and Central Referral Hospital.
On the vaccination front, Sikkim administered 6,989 doses of Covishield on Tuesday, of whom 6,650 people completed their vaccination schedule with the second dose and 339 received their first jabs.
Over all, Sikkim has administered a total of 8,93,078 doses of the vaccine so far. 3,74,209 people here have completed their vaccination schedule.
