AIDS awareness to leverage the power of oral storytelling
Gangtok, 21 Jan:
Sikkim State AIDS Control Society [SSACS] has been reaching out to the people through various digital events due to the pandemic. In continuation of its series of virtual events, SSACS has announced the Online Story Telling Contest 2021 to create wider awareness about HIV and AIDS by inviting people to talk about HIV and AIDS.
SSACS is organizing this state-level virtual event in collaboration with The Beat Entertainment on the theme ‘Global Solidarity Shared Responsibility’.
Addressing a press conference here today, SSACS Project Director, Dr DS Kerongi, informed that SSACS has been running various HIV/ AIDS programmes under the National AIDS Control Organization to control HIV/ AIDS in the State through mass awareness and prevention programmes.
He stated that HIV/AIDS was also connected to various health and social issues so it was important to work with different sections of the society through various mediums.
About the online storytelling contest, Dr Kerongi mentioned that the storytelling contest is being held for the first time not only in Sikkim but the entire north-eastern region.
He expressed hope that such creative activities will bring a positive change in the people.
He informed that interested participants can submit their entries online from 25 Jan to 28 Feb and that the finale is scheduled for 08 March.
The competition will be held in open category.
Participants are required to send their videos narrating stories at least 3 minutes long and 7 minutes at most. A three-member jury will first shortlist the top-10 finalists and then the top-three winners of the competition.
The Jury comprises of Dr Santosh Sharma, Bishal Darnal and Dr Sudarshan Tamang.
Beat Entertainment proprietor, Shivraj Shivakoti, in turn informed that entries can be submitted in Nepali, Hindi or English along with the script and proper sub-titles.
The top-10 finalists will be invited to perform off-line on 08 March at Gangtok.
SSACS Assistant Director [IEC], Lubhana Rai, added that results of the short film competition will be announced on Friday.
She further informed that SSACS was also gearing up to organize its popular Red Fest Multimedia Campaign in February and March. She urged interested participants to visit the SSACS website for further details about the campaign.
