ASHA workers of GTA submit demands to administration

Darjeeling, 16 Dec:

ASHA workers from the entire GTA region headed by "Paschim Banga Asha Karmi Union" today held a rally demanding payment of all dues for service rendered during the Covid period, incentives, and insurance of Rs. 1 lakh to all Covid affected ASHA workers.

They submitted a memorandum to the DM and GTA principal secretary, threatening to launch a strike if their demands are not fulfilled.

State Secretary Paschim Banga Asha Karmi Union,Ismat Ara Khatoon said that around 300 workers participated in the rally from Darjeeling motor stand via Chowrasta till LalKothi.

ASHA workers throughout this region are facing problems and everyone knows that this scheme is from the Central Government but the State and Centre have to take responsibility, she said. ASHA workers are still deprived of many facilities that they are supposed to get from the government, she added.

Among their demands are the demand for permanent salary and permanent job, and clearance of dues pending since 2019. They also demanded fixed salary of at least ₹ 21,000 to each ASHA worker and benefits like PF, pension, Sick Leave etc.

Similar rallies are being held all over West Bengal by State PaschimBangaAshaKarmi Union, it is informed. A massive gathering is scheduled for 10 Jan 2022 in UttarKanyaSiliguri.

They also plant to meet theGovernor of West Bengal.
